I do find that I am attracted to albums that suddenly change the landscape fo music upon their release. Dr. Dre helped invent the entire sound of West Coast hip hop and gangsta rap as a part of NWA. With The Chronic, and the introduction of a young Long Beach rapper named Snoop Doggy Dogg, he added the element that would come to be known as G-Funk, and made the sounds more digestible and open for crossover listening. You could say Dr. Dre has done pretty well since the release of this debut album; his current net worth is close to a billion dollars due to his work as a producer and an entrepreneur (especially after selling the “Beats” brand to Apple) (June 2020).
